Hi! My name is Victoria Haugsness and I am the administrative assistant and social media coordinator here at Sterling Sport Mindset. I am an animal lover, and enjoy being around my family and friends. I graduated from Washburn University with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. Along with my job here at SSM I am also pursuing a degree at Wichita State University to work towards getting a Master’s in Sports Counseling. Psychology has always been interesting to me, but it wasn’t until a year ago that I realized I had a true passion for sport psychology.
Growing up I had played many different sports, but softball was the one that I was drawn to most. It took up the majority of my time, and still does to this day. My first three years of college were spent as a student athlete for a couple different colleges in Tennessee. Being from the Kansas City area, I not only experienced what it was like to be a collegiate athlete, but also the tolls of being far from home. Going through hard times mentally myself as a college athlete led me to want to pursue sport psychology.
I want to be able to help athletes who are going through hard times themselves mentally, and show them that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I want to help them work through those times and come out still loving their sport and wanting to succeed.
Although I am no longer an athlete, I am now a coach. I coach a 16u travel softball team and give pitching lessons in my free time. Coming into the world of coaching as a former athlete who had experienced mistreatment from coaches in the past, I want to show that there is a way to be a good coach without mistreating athletes. I want to share my knowledge of softball with the girls on my team to help them grow and be more successful, whether that be just in softball or in life outside of sports.
Even though the idea of working with athletes as a career only came to me a year ago, I feel as though because of my sports past, I already know so much. I plan to use my knowledge of sports, technology, and social media to help bring athletes closer to reaching their goals and staying in touch with the consultants here at SSM. It’s my job to get you in the right mindset at the start of the week, give you the motivation needed to make it through the week, and make sure you are winning the weekends. See you on social media!
